New Social Experience Coming to EMS World Expo
July 29th, 2011 — carissaoWe’re so excited to announce that, with the support of EMS World and title sponsor Physio-Control, EMS will have its very first Social Media Lounge at EMS World Expo in Las Vegas next month. The Lounge, which will be located on the show floor at Booth #2830–right next door to the ProMed Podcast Studio, will be the destination for EMS bloggers, podcasters, and everyone interested in learning more about social media and the latest innovations in EMS.
We’re designing a comfortable space for folks to gather, meet new people and old friends, plug in, live blog, tweet, connect and share. We’ll be displaying the live tweet stream of the #EMSWorldExpo hashtag, as well as popular EMS blogs. And, most exciting, we’ll be holding a number of microsessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. These short, but lively sessions will be led by your favorite EMS podcasters and bloggers, social media friends and EMS leaders. And while we’ve got a few ideas we’re excited about, we want YOU to help us design the content of these sessions. What do you most want to hear and learn about? What would you like to share? These sessions will be highly interactive, as this whole space is about the EMS community and creating opportunities for us all to learn from each other. Here are some ideas we’re kicking around:
–The State of Social EMS–An interactive discussion about the role of social media in EMS, what it is, what it isn’t, and how it’s evolving.
–Live Confessions of an EMS Newbie–A chat with Kelly Grayson and the winner of his recent EMS Newbie essay contest.
–There’s an App for That!–Real-world experiences and what the future holds (or should) with EMS apps in the field.
–Google Gets Social?–A bleeding edge discussion of the Google+ beta and what it might be for the social EMS community.
–Quality Improvement Rock Stars–Highlighting an example or two of systems that have made measurable improvements and what tools they used.
–My Perfect Monitor–Continuing a discussion that started on Twitter with a few curious medics and some of our manufacturer friends, what would YOUR perfect monitor look like and how can we get there?
–CPR Quality–Discussing practitioners’ perspective on CPR quality and the various tools, including mechanical CPR, for system improvements.
–Elevating EMS as a Profession–Exploring the role of each EMT, medic and EMS leader in advancing EMS.
So, what do YOU think? Would you vote for any of these? Add your own idea? Please share your thoughts here in the comments, and do us a favor and tweet this post or share it on your Facebook wall too. We want to get the opinions of as many of the EMS community as possible. And remember, folks at home will be able to follow along, so whether you’re going to Expo or not, please chime in!
Thank you so very much to EMS World and to Physio-Control for supporting this space and showing their commitment to the EMS community. We’re all looking forward to making it a great space for you all to connect, learn and share.

This is such an awesome idea. There was never a “bloggers and podcasters conference”, but it seems we create our own space at these EMS conferences. Kudos to smart vendors like Physio that recognize us and support us. It will be great fun to have a place to gather and discuss things in person. This is what makes the difference between knowing someone as a Twitter handle or Facebook icon and a live human. Although relationships can be cultured and grow in social media, sharing with a real person over a cup of coffee or a beer brings relationships to the next level. Not to mention all the amazing ideas we share to make EMS a better world. My idea would be just for fun. I’d love to be there for a discussion or competiton between the newbies (Kelly’s bunch) and the dinosaurs (of which I am, proudly, one). Not sure what form this would take, but maybe your group could come up with some ideas! – Sam
