EMS leaders need the best tools at a reasonable cost in order to provide treatment for their communities. Chris Cebollero, host of the EMS Leadership Podcast got the chance to chat with Amy Smith from ZOLL about the RescueNet software and the 12-Lead transmission tools that are now available for free to emergency medical services systems from the Ambulance to the Hospital. Built using open architecture, the RescueNet software includes free to use and access APIs that allow any monitor or defibrillator vendor to write code to access and transmit to the RescueNet system.
Thanks to ZOLL for sponsoring the EMS Leadership Podcast and also for being our Streaming Video Sponsors at EMS World Expo 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. You’ll find other episodes and video segments recorded at EMS World Expo both here at the ProMed Network and at MedicCast.tv.

Product Innovator – B.E.A.R. from Beariatrics.com
At EMS Today 2011 in March, we picked from among the thousands of products in the exhibit hall a few standout product innovators. This was Chris Montera’s pick for the show and a good choice it was! With the increased scrutiny on proper transport and equipment for Bariatric patients, a simple and elegant solution to retaining a sizable abdomen in the midline on a top-heavy stretcher is important.
Keith Ishida and the Beariatrics Equalizing Abdominal Restraint (BEARiatrics.com) has solved that problem without significantly adding to the weight of an already hefty transport situation. View the video short segment from our finale episode recorded in March earlier this year.

One of the most passionately argued subjects in the EMS world is whether or not to continue to allow ALS providers like paramedics and medics in the field utilize advanced airways like ET tubes for patient airway management in critical situations.
Both sides cite studies that support their positions but none of the studies is designed around the unique EMS environment and patient care situations. What is the current consensus among the experts and medical directors? Are there any well designed studies on prehospital health care intubation?
This episode of the JEMSCast is recorded live at EMS Today 2011 in Baltimore from the Medtronic Foundation sponsored Podcast Studio. Co-hosts Jennifer Berry from JEMS Magazine and Chris Montera, from the EMS Garage podcast lead a discussion on what the panels at EMS Today are saying about this subject.

Aladtec sponsored the Podcast Studio on Saturday and was excited to share with the ProMed Network audience just how easy and time saving their product is for agencies of any size. Chad Clay from Aladtec talked with Carissa about the web based nature of the software, the self scheduling capabilities for personnel, and the organizational time and money savings from using the online service.
Since they offer a free demo of the service and a risk free program to ensure that companies get what they are looking for out of the product. Find more info at Aladtec.com.

Chris Montera from the EMS Garage got a chance to chat with Brad Weber from Zoll about their brand new iPad app for electronic patient care reports (ePCR). This announcement was just one of the exciting announcements made at EMS Today 2011 and we want to thank Zoll for generously sponsoring the ProMed Network Podcast Studio at the event.
When you consider that and iPad costs 1/5 the price of a Toughbook and offers and easier to use interface and connectivity resource, it is a no-brainer to move in this direction. I was excited to hear about this announcement but not surprised as Zoll has lead the pack in many ways with their innovations for interconnectivity of medical devices from the ambulance to the hospital and beyond.

Congratulations to Rick Russotti on his upcoming 200th episode of the Mitigation Journal podcast! I’m proud to say that I helped to get him started and he has created an amazing program on preparedness for emergency and health pros at all levels!
Rick started his podcasting career on the MedicCast in an interview with Jamie Davis, the Podmedic about National Incident Management System (NIMS). He then decided that there needed to be a show focused on general preparedness issues for all responders from EMS to the hospital to public health. The Mitigation Journal was born.
Since then, Rick has progressed from a training officer to a battalion chief and after his retirement from the Rochester Fire service, began training as an RN. Rick is the consummate professional in everything he does and we here at the ProMed Network are proud to be associated with him.
Check out the Mitigation Journal via iTunes or at MitigationJournal.org.
